Newspaper Prints

After many attempts with nail varnish remover and thinners I was finially able to get the tranfer of newspaper onto my prints to work. I may have killed alot of brain cells in the process but it was worth it. I didn want this text to be clear or totally visible to the veiwer as the giel herself in the print does not understand this serious 'important' news

Alot of colour... (for me)

Looking at litchenstein's work I was able to acheive the worried look on my girls face but also I drew influence from his bright reds yellows and blues.

These colours are very dramatic and possibly over-dramatic and also this obsession with tabloid poiontless news and information is now becoming a major topic in todays pop culture.

Using four plates 1) etching 2) asatate for yellow and red mono 3) asatate for blue mono 4) drypint on asatate for text I was able to create the first print you see the other with less plates.
Again the text is playing on the over dramatic headlines you find this particular text was based on a headline I read about Jennifer Aniston and originally read JENS PATHETIC. The text is basically mocking the girl for being so obseesed with this news.

Back Printing at last!!

After a day of preparing the plate and etching and then dipping it in the acid bath  I finally got back into the print room. This is my first print of the year so far

So far I think etching has an ability to allow you to get much finer lines than with drypoint. After seeing how you can control how long some areas get etched I think I would like to do a much detailed print but for this project the 'comic' style drawing is what I need to let text stand out

Headlines and Stories

My reaction to this brief was to look at the tabloid news or rather the pointless news that people seem to care about more including myself. Most headlines in tabloids are over dramatic about rather trivial subjects such as what celebrities had for breakfast.

From this pointless news idea I decided to show a girl paniced over this information but also want to find a way to include the text or headlines that she is worried by. This is my final sketch of what this girl will look like, I think she needs to look slightly more worried.
