Contextual Research

This documentary was extremely helpful into the insight of masculinity and looking at the issues of hair surrounding the identity of the male.

Photography starting point

Just a few beards to draw from for now. Will be looking forward to getting more high quality images in the photography studio where i will be able to control the lighting on the beards and face much better

Colour (I know shocking)

So as you can tell already I love just black and white and while it works for me I decided to experiment with colour to help create layered prints make them more busy rather than just plain black and white

So it may have started kind of subtle but more colour did happen

Finding use for digital

This is just a test of what I would like to do with my digital work either through chine cole or printing woodblack on top of a digital print

Getting the hang of it

So after 3 plates I think the most succesful was the one of the bear I think in the others I left too much white and didn't apply aquatint to the background.

Digital

So digital work would not be my strong point mostly because I see nothing wrong with just a pencil.
For this digital print I wanted to combine the natural and unatural behaviour I am focusing on by using an unatural object such as a syringe and making them look like leaves.

Start of etchings

As my project is mainly drawing based I want to have  series of etchings done and apply aquatint

For this woodcut I decided to keep the animals fully as animals and apply the bad habits of humans to them using the poses they were already in the find similar poses accosiated with bad human traits.

Ok so decided to do a second photo litho this time using ink instead of pen just to try something different need looser lines I think. The results worked well and yes they have no heads yet but thats another reason I made them loose my drawings will be added to the prints and as my ususal style is so tight I said I would make the prints loose for a contarst. Oh yes and these are drawings of my drunken friends.

Photography (Animals acting like animals)

These are some of the photos I have taken from Dublin Zoo sadly I don't have access to wild animals in their own environment so this was the closet I could get. It was very helpful to just observe them and get images that work well on their own and that will later be used for drawing purposes and digital work.
