Drawing Project
For the drawing project the alive artist I chose to look at was Micheal Craig Martin as I never use colour so saw this as a challange.. The dead artist I chose was Piccasso I used one of his early sketches as it was very loose again very different from my style. I decided when continueing this project forward the loose ink drawings were best to do as each one seems to come out different yet improves each time.. What was also good about this was I was able to give myself one person to draw everyday and keep a sketchbook of all these.

Back to the cows
The more I looked at the colour in silkscreen the more annoyed I got so I decided to try out the background in the darker red... With no screens avalible I used woodcut instead.

Ok so things got weird
So drawing a chicken posing as a woman from your head is kind of difficult so I said why not buy a raw chicken and take some photos... This was the outcome... Also the chicken was later enjoyed for dinner.

I don't have some weird obsession with meat... I swear
So sticking with how woman are veiwed my approach to this project has become clearer to me it is now about... Seeing meat as woman... To emphatise how they are being veiwed in a demining manor... Voyerism being the main focus. After reading some extracts from John Berger's "ways of seeing" I wanted to take his ideas of the female nude and how the way their bodies were posed allowed us to see them as an object and look at this in a humourous manor.

Meat Market
Prints of cows with and without the red added in.... seeing them now printed I would have liked to have changed the background to red and the highlights to the pink.

Sexy Cows
So I kind of drifted away from the animal fur protest partly because it seems alot of the class has an obsession with fur. I did mostly change my idea slightly to suit silkscreen because the previous drawings did not suit the layering technique. The cows that i'm am drawing now still has to do with how animals and how woman are being treated. The windows represent butchers shops in comparision to red light district windows.

Humour and Protest
I wanted to look at protest for animals that are unable to protest for themselves. Specifically looking at the fur trade. Any of the advertisments from organisations such as peeta who are against this never use animals in their images and always tend to stick to naked woman. So here are some of my first drawings on how animals would protest the use of their fur by wearin humans.

Photography
For my photography project I was influenced by the woodcuts by Christiane Baumgartner whose work starts off from photography and video and are cut to look like a sequence from a video very similar to cctv this allowed me to push the concept from tabloids of the pictures taken of celebrites who are carrying out mundane tasks and who also might not be aware their photos are being taken.

Working on prints
These are two of my lithos that I've worked on top of one where I stitched into the print to play on the idea of the cuts on the face from the Black Dahlia and other where I used lipstick to add colour.

Litho bit more
So this first image is my sketch for litho. Sticking with the lipstick idea as a methopher for more serious or even violent news I created these lips with smudged lipstick. The Black Dahlia was cut from mouth to ears creating whats known as a glasgow smile. And these other pictures are my drawing on the stone and my first litho prints.

Little bit o Litho
At first seeing what the first groups lithos entailed I was hesitant about using the headlines and stories brief for this and thought I would have preffewred to change to stuctures and systems but after my standstill a couple of weeks ago I'm now on a roll and definatly obsessed with the whole idea of the Black Dahlia and cant wait to continue this idea.
The Black Dahlia murder was very grusome especially for its time but over time it has become over-dramatised in films and we jus start to look at it as entertainment and a subject to get obsessed over rather than the serious subject of news that it is and that is murder.

Film Noir emerging
Looking at my previous work such as this text based image a 50's noir stly started to appear and workin with two plates now I could create a story board of the girls lipstick breaking although it looks more like her lipstick was murdered. And also a white on black image of the lipstick seems very much like a bullet with gun powder resadue and also decided to experiment a little bit with the idea of blood instead of lipstick..... Looking at noir films made about murders I began to look at the Black Dahlia murder from 1947... I think I might be getting obsessed with this story.
